All She Has Is Her Words

She dances to the music of a thousand notes
Never minding the unwinding of words that she wrote
Despair and panic fighting for space in her throat
All she has is her words

Breath shallow from trying to hold it together
She hides depression as simply being “under the weather”
Struggling out from under “you got to do better”
All she has is her words

No one can hear the desperation rising up
Begging for the passing of such bitter cup
While doing all she can to stop the imminent erupt
All she has is her words

Voice silenced-suffocated in domestic bliss
She tries hard not to think on the life she missed
Temporary relief in a stolen, false kiss
All she has is her words

She lives in the arms of unrequited love
Never letting out what she really dreams of
The edge close enough for the smallest nudge
All she has is her words

She sings upbeat tunes tinged in hollow blues
Pained enough to bring tears, light enough to confuse
And the ones who should notice missing all the clues
All she has is her words

She sits writing the life that she wants to know
Even as she inhabits a one woman show
Even as the anxiety takes her down low
All she has is her words

    1. Thanks! I appreciate the compliment. I don’t always get it right (mostly not, lol), but when I do, it works.
