Appreciation

morning sun2

I’ve seen the morning sun
My cue to face the day
The light soft on my pillow
My eyes closed anyway

I’ve felt the morning sun
It’s warmth kissing my skin
The heat upon my shoulders, as
I’ve shrugged it off again.

And then, I’ve known the cold
Stabbed by chills sharp as knives
Battered by winds that blow
Stinging tears in my eyes

I’ve stood there in the cold
My hope turning to ice
My heart shivering as
The pain froze up my life

I’ve seen the morning sun
And learned to love the glow
I welcome it each day
That I draw breath. I know
Beneath its fire, I grow.
