Nights like this I wish that raindrops would fall
So no one could see tears leaking from my eyes.
You see, when it rains
Attentions turn inward
The desire for self preservation and warm friendly comforts
Glaze over usually prying eyes and stop up generally nosy ears
Hands reach for coverings-
Heads pull back, avoiding moist assault.
Paces quicken, minds making decisions about shelter and true priorities.
No one is really thinking about me.
No questions, like, ‘Why you so sad?’
Or empty reassurances, like, ‘Oh, it’s not so bad.’
Nobody’s trying to get me back to brighter sides
Or leaving me no room for feelings to fly.
When it rains, there’s no time for me.
When it pours, my cries can be released
Thunderclaps swallowing vented frustrations
Tears running from forced captivity…
Nights like this I wish that raindrops would fall.
