Spread Smiles, People! (For Delores)

What wrecks
I have endured,
Life only insuring
That I
Intimately
Know
Pain, each
Bitter taste enough
To make my
Throat full.
You would not
Know it, though.
I protect my life,
My fight only to
Keep this lamp
Brimming with the oil
Juiced from
The promises ripe
Inside my dreams.
It seems the world
Wants me to
Frown,
Face tilted down
Struggles pushing
My eyes and mind
Furiously to
The ground, defeated.
But I just cannot
Comply, my
Lips my disguise
To the hurt
Resting behind
The light
In my eyes
Spreading smiles
Instead of
The tears
That I would cry.
