Own Your Light

I used to give it away,
Thinking (one day)
Someone would see me.
But continuously,
I found myself fighting
As they tried to
Put it out.
I have little doubt now
That my shine
Is a thing of beauty
Challenging, speaking on
How things should be.
And I guard it, see,
Because in it is my
Equity, my
Destiny, my
Legacy to myself
My kin, the world.
My value locked in
An eternal glow.
Now, you know,
I own my light.
