If I could share any message to move us all fully into 2018, it is to live beyond the rhetoric. You can be and do whatever is in your heart.
Being black cannot stop you.
Being a woman cannot stop you.
Being LGBTQIA cannot stop you.
Being disabled cannot stop you.
Here’s what will:
Listening to folks tell you you can’t because of the above.
Listening to folks tell you you can’t because of white people.
Listening to folks tell you you can’t because it’s never been done (far as THEY know).
Listening to folks tell you it’s not worth it.
Listening to folks tell you it’s not lucrative.
God has given you a dream because God made you with that purpose in mind. Who you are and what you accomplish for yourself is the very thing that will uplift someone else.
So stop listening to the naysayers. Do what God has given you. Even if you have very little support you can do it by:
Honing your craft.
Reading and learning and practicing.
Seeking out places and people who WILL support you.
Sacrificing some of the things that distract others.
Putting the Divine first and getting instruction from the most High on what steps to take.
Believing in yourself.
If you really want it, the only person who can keep you from it is you.
Our ancestors had no resources, yet invented most of the things still used today because of God’s divine downloads. They learned even though formal education was spotty. They built. They wrote. They danced. They sang. They created. And when no space was made for them, they made spaces for themselves.
Make space for yourself. And when you are done, make space for someone else. Even if it means not being wealthy. Or famous. Or beloved. Make space for yourself so that you can make space for others.
And yes, we should all continue to fight for what is RIGHT. But don’t let the fact that it’s not yet right keep you from your vision.
